Glen Allsopp is my new mentor. He hasn’t exactly offered himself to be my mentor yet… so we’ll just ignore the fact that it may be called stalking if the recipient is unknowing.
I’ve been studying his articles like crazy for past few weeks after accidentally discovering him at PluginID.
I found his site right when I was curious about starting up my own blog, but clueless as to where to begin. I bought a domain name just a few weeks prior to finding PluginID, and had been a bit overwhelmed with not knowing where to begin to get my site up and running. I am so grateful for all of the down to earth advice and free resources he offers on all of his blogs, without which you even be reading these very words. In addition, his patience and willingness to answer all of my ridiculous, annoying beginner questions in the comments section of his blogs during the past few weeks is remarkable. And, all of this invaluable advice culminates in a FREE 69 page ebook that he just released called Blogging Blueprint.

Just a few short weeks ago, I didn’t know what SEO meant, what FTP software was, or why locating my include.php would be quite meaningful if I wanted to be able to edit my own site. I had no idea how to build a blog, what WordPress even was, or how to activate a plug in. HTML was a foreign, mysterious computer language that people much more technically inclined than I knew. If you don’t know what any of these terms mean, and have always had that nagging desire to build your own blog, have your own website, or simply learn the basics of how to get your first website up and running, you may want to get to know this guy. I’m beyond grateful that I did.
Blogging Blueprint is a three part 69 page, free ebook. Glen’s down to earth, simple, yet sophisticated style caters perfectly to web building beginners, like myself. Despite his extensive experience with web design and internet business, he has an incredible ability to relate to people who don’t even know basic, beginner internet business terms. It has been my experience that once someone learns a new term, they suddenly forget what it is like to not it. Many technically advanced people prefer to simply roll their eyes at the beginners, and then proceed to brag about how much they know. Glen does the opposite, including welcoming questions from the beginners and giving patient, clear answers usually within 24 hours of when they are asked.
Anyway, back to the guide. It is set up in a three part, easy to use fashion. As he explains in the intro, the reader can skip whatever parts they like, and choose how to use the guide. Part one’s 15 pages include an intro and Glen’s personal story. He explains how he got his start in the business and became so successful that he was offered a job in South Africa as a Social Media Marketer for one of the biggest companies in the world. After accepting the position and doing it for over a year, he moved back home to the UK and has been recently 100% self employed.
Part two is the step by step guide for setting up your own blog. It is the longest section, and most practical. He covers every aspect you need for starting a blog, from the psychology behind what you should write about, to the nuts and bolts of getting a domain, hosting and WordPress installed. The multiple pictures and screenshots make it super simple to follow along and figure out how to do it yourself, even if calling yourself a beginner would be an exaggeration. (Like me)
In the third section, Glen divulges his secrets to his blogging success in a way which makes it easy to emulate. I have taken his ideas quite seriously, and done some of the things that he suggests such as joined Twitter, worked on building backlinks for my site, and am working on his tips for quality- offer an insane amount of value for readers and be consistent in posting. His practical advice seems to be valuable for even experienced bloggers and obviously great for people, like myself, who so very recently didn’t have a clue.
I strongly suggest going and checking out this guide. I can’t speak highly enough for how his advice has literally changed my life. I have found a new passion in blogging, internet business, and the online personal development blogosphere. It excites me every day as real life gives me great ideas for new blogs, and I end up scribbling ideas down on scratch paper multiple times a day. My passion for writing and expressing myself suddenly has an instant, global platform that is self published and available to who ever comes stumbling upon my blog. I am currently working with a web designer to improve and streamline my site, and actively working every day on either writing material for my blog or promoting it. And the amazing thing is that anyone can do it…. That is, with this handy, dandy guide. So, go check it out.
Also, Glen has some other great blogs that offer similar, but slightly different information…
HQHow (more technical, and practical advice on how to make money online)
and
PluginHQ (one of his first blogs, originally known as Viperchill)
Happy Learning!

Ha! Thanks for the stumble. You rock. And you crack me up too, Alex.
And…he’s only 20! I have a blog post going up on Monday morning that talks about how I took his tutorial and setup my own affiliate marketing. My audience isn’t generally particularly technical but I’m hoping to show I have been able to take his advice and implement it to get some cash coming in. You give me hope that my non-technically minded audience might be able to catch some of the internet marketing passion and use it as a viable source of income. I’m a technical person (programming degree, programmer for 10 years, now project manager) so I’m not sure many of them believe they can do it but you are inspiring that it can be done!
I know, it’s crazy he’s only 20! I’m six yrs older, and look up to him and the knowledge he has. I actually went thru his affiliate marketing tutorial first, and it was my first site ever to get live. Haven’t sold anything there either, but it was more of a test in how to set it all up. I just picked a product I don’t have any passion for. I’ve recently become super passionate about internet marketing and social media marketing, and I’m not technical at all. But I am decent on the computer, and just believe I can eventually figure anything out I put my mind to. Have you made any sales yet from your affiliate marketing site?
I’ve made 2 sales from my first affiliate marketing site in about a month’s time and it was a product I know nothing about. That site gets a surprising amount of traffic though. It was definitely a test and I’m not out any money so the experience was good.
My blog post that went up today was about a new site and I’m hoping my results will be better since I’m featuring products that I not only know about but really love. I’ll post my results as I go.

It posted… I just have to approve it the first time when you’re a new poster.
Just wanted to update that I’ve now had 4 sales in 1 month on a product and site that I knew very little about. The key was definitely the search term which brings in crazy amounts of traffic so naturally a few sales convert.
Just put up the new site on Sunday that I do know a lot about and hoping it does as well on traffic but has even more conversions.
I’m convinced Glen’s method definitely works!
Wow! Four sales!! Congrats
I don’t think I have the search term thing figured out quite yet… which is why I don’t have good traffic. Need to work on that part…
Lol! Thanks Karen
Instant, global platform is a great way to put it and it sounds like you’re following your passion. Very nice, thorough review.
Thanks, J.D.! I appreciate the nice words, and for you stopping by!
Great post and review on Blogging Blueprint!
