(This is the first guest post here on Dreamin’ the Life, by Dave Damon from Life Excursion. He writes about finance, health, minimalism, and organization. Guests post will be few, far between, and only from people that I fully endorse, and support their message. Dave is one of these people, and I highly suggest you go check out his site.)

As most of you fellow Dreamin’ the Life readers have come to realize, life is full of wonderful moments and opportunities. Karen has provided all of us with a great deal of important and suggestive articles that I know have opened my eyes to areas of my life which I once was blind. I am here to tell you, YOU can make significant changes to your life that will not only improve your current situation, but that of others at the same time.

Let me start by explaining my story a bit. Growing up in Northern California until the age of 22, I experienced everything there was to be in the Golden State and luckily some beyond. Some of that beyond was during my travels in Australia at the age of 21. I did some volunteer work alongside Australians and other US college students in Tasmania which is an island off the southeast tip of Aussie. Following the volunteer work, we traveled up the eastern side of Australia living it up and experiencing all there was to be in this great land down under. I was able to help others, see the world, and have some good times. It changed my life. Taking that excursion opened my eyes to the possibilities out there that I suddenly knew I had to capture. Today, the front page of my blog, LifeExcursion, has a header picture of Sydney, Australia as a reference to my own life excursion towards happiness.

I am here to tell you that taking a meaningful excursion towards a new life is possible. And you can start right now (after reading this wonderful guest post…?!)!!! You don’t have to step foot on a plane or jump in a car. All you have to do is find your true passion and start doing something towards making that goal or experience your life. It could be the life of a location independent nomad. Or it could be as a stay at home mom. Or it could be as a high profile special agent for the FBI. Or it could be that thing you are thinking about right this moment that you have always wanted to do. Yessss….that thing. Stop ignoring it and bring it to the forefront of your life. You will see. You will see how much happier you are when you start trying to achieve what you really want in life. Sure, there are sacrifices, but isn’t it worth sacrifice the wasted money on new clothes, coffee, and eating out every meal for the chance to take a great excursion through life?

Changes can be tough and uncertainty can be an anchor. However, I want you to look at life in a different light. Step outside of yourself for a moment. Ask yourself, “What makes you happy?” Answer with the lifestyle you dream of the most. With that, you will discover your passion. That passion can drive you to great heights of success, happiness, and so much more. But you have to decide that that is what you want. If I were to tell you, “You only have a year to live,” what would you do? Would you sit back and still work your 9-5? Or would you go to the edges of the world seeing everything you could in your last 365. However you answer that question, “What would you do,” is exactly how you need to approach the rest of your life starting now. Not tomorrow. NOW!

Don’t be tired of hearing it. People have been telling you your whole life to do what you love, so start listening and take an Excursion towards a new Life TODAY!!!

Hey Dave
Great post! and close to my heart….I spent a year down under at 22 (mainly in Sydney) such a great country. :-)
I really like that you say don’t be tired of hearing that we can have the life we want right now! It’s a day by day thing isn’t it to be relentless and remind ourselves it is all possible.
Thank you
Jen

I’m just starting to do this now. It’s a great feeling. Nerve-racking at times but I can feel the anxiety dissolving into an feeling of excitement. Life really is too short to not go after what you truly want.

Hi Dave -

Great message. As you know, I have made a pledge to go after the life I want to live but it’s always good to know that others have not only taken the same plunge but have taken the plunge successfully.

Paul

P.S. One of the biggest eye-opening experiences of my life was traveling and finishing college abroad in…you guessed it, Australia. It seems to be a common theme here :)

What would we do if we only had a year to live? I bet a lot of us would take huge steps toward our passions instead.
Thanks for the much needed reminder!

Ken
